The Rural Amazonian Health Initiative is not a new program or organization, we have been serving in the Amazon for years. It is an initiative created to bring people together in the name of Jesus Christ to serve rural Peru through direct medical aid, dental services, Public Health preventative education, and children's ministry. We reach across denominational barriers and seek to form collaborations with the medical community at different organizations in the Peruvian Amazon so we can share contacts, meet needs in an organized way, and become one voice for the sake of Christ. Initiative members are a conglomeration of students and professionals from all across the United States with one thing in mind- Spreading the Good News by serving one another in love.
We seek to serve the region of Peru that is in and around the headwaters of the Amazon River. Our base is in Iquitos, a city of 400,000 people surrounded by jungle, and is the largest city in the world that can't be reached by roads. Poverty plagues this city as well as the rural villages surrounding it. Our goal as a missions initiative is to reach those that have no or limited access to care, and to work with the current infrastructure to sustainably meet severely deficient medical and spiritual needs of the people living in the Peruvian jungle.
The foundation of our ministry is in touching lives, planting seeds of hope, and providing the fertilizer to sprout a host of new churches filled with new believers throughout the rainforest. "Be the change you wish to see in the world" (Mahatma Ghandi) and join our mission in serving people, serving Peru, and most importantly serving God.
Words can change the world, join us in spreading the word of God throughout the Amazon by sharing in our mission and in supporting through donations.
